“Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.”
For reasons known to us, this narrative has been pushed relentlessly by the leftist cabal.
But then, I don’t expect them to differentiate between a country and a nation. A nation thrives on patriotism and nationalism, two much-hated words in the lexicon of leftist ideology. Imagine what would happen if our army did not believe in the idea of a nation, patriotism, and nationalism.
Great nations are built on patriotism and nationalism. Look at Americans and the way they flaunt their patriotism. How respected army veterans are, and how the army is worshipped. The admiration is also reflected in their pop culture, where many war movies are made, eulogising America and the great American army. The world knows of their Navy Seals, Delta Force, and some of their finest actors who have essayed and immortalised army heroes; Top Gun is a classic example.
Sadly, Unlike America, the Indian Army is not much spoken about. Barring a few movies like Border and LOC Kargil, most of the others are a comic take on the courage of our soldiers. Remember, Bhuj The Pride of India, where Ajay Devgan played a fighter pilot? This situation is further muddled by a few veterans who have found TV studios to be their second home. These officers, with their one-sided political bias, parochial vision and mud-slinging, bring such a disgrace to the Armed Forces that even a massive PR exercise won’t be able to fix it.
Remember the screeching Maj Gen GD Bakshi, who is always ready to mimic a braveheart, a government supporter, a war expert or any other expert needed by the day’s panel? His moustache reminds me of comedians playing retired Army officers. I am sure you must have seen Maj Gaurav Arya, who has an opinion on everything: from the army to the economy, politics to Hindutva. These officers have made a mockery of the uniform and are an apparent disgrace to the armed forces. Of course, the channels use them to whip up a frenzy to propel the TRP.
But I am glad that the social media platform YouTube has given the nation a new set of army heroes: shaved, sophisticated, and still in their prime fitness. These real veterans, with hands-on experience, were the best in their day and still amplify the values of the armed forces — discipline, love for the nation and accepting challenges. Colonel Shivedra Kanwar, Col Kaushal Kashyap, Brig SS Shekhawat, and many more fill my heart with hope. The officers are the new role models, and their swag is worthy of being eulogised.
It is also good to see a few YouTube channels being run by decorated officers, monks, and warriors, which is one such channel that delves deep into the lifestyle of the armed forces. Believe me; their stories will have you hypnotised and their take on life, love for the nation, terror, training, and fitness are inspirational. You will fall in love with their sparkling eyes and childlike smile, and the motivation served on the table will brighten up your day and help you deal with your problems better.
