The new law on Hit and run, which to a common man seems logical, saw truckers come out on the street protesting over it. What is the new law?

Under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), which replaced the colonial era Indian Penal Code, drivers who cause a serious road accident by negligent driving and run away without informing the police or any official from the administration can face punishment of up to 10 years and a fine of Rs 7 lakh.

Previously, individuals accused in hit-and-run cases were tried under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code, facing penalties of up to two years in jail upon identification. Introducing the new Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita signifies a substantial shift toward more severe consequences for hit-and-run offences in India.

The new law sounds fair to me. If we commit an error, humans are morally and socially bound to take corrective action rather than fleeing from the scene. So why this outburst?

Before any election, there are protests, farmers’ protests, trucker protests, Hathras rape protests, and the list is exhaustive. Indeed, you know these protests don’t happen organically but are orchestrated by the opposition parties.

I understand that the motley opposition alliance is having nightmares courtesy of the mammoth surge planned on 22nd January at Ayodhya. This “Pran Pratishtha’ of Lord Ram is a civilisational churn that will impact billions across the globe. We also know that the BJP has initiated a mammoth activation campaign around it.

From flying Lord Hanuman powered by drones to a door-to-door campaign across ten crore households, the resurgence of Lord Ram will cost the opposition heavily as they have been doubting and mocking his existence and grabbing every opportunity to derail the temple construction. Remember a noted Congress lawyer terming raw as a Myth? Remember a political party opening fire at Kar Sevaks to appease the minority vote bank?

January 22nd will be a new dawn for billions of Hindus and a prolonged nightmare for everyone who opposed our temple and mocked our faith.
