The Sultan Of Democracy
All this while, we have been fed upon nothing but a lie. Cricket and Bollywood unify us as a nation, and when the need of the hour is greater, Religion does the trick.
Until a few days back, I assumed religion to be the strongest Frevicol that we had as a society and nation. But I was in for a shock as this myth got busted, and that too in front of a billion views. The realisation was stark and surprising, shaking the very foundation of our beliefs.
The Pran Pratishta of Ram Mandir was an event of monumental proportions, undoubtedly the most significant in our country’s recent history. BJP’s careful and tactical planning gave it a larger spectrum. The nation assumed who could say no to an invitation from Lord Ram, and that too when the event was of such mammoth proportions. To our dismay, from Sonia Gandhi to Lalu, Akhilesh to Mamata, even the Shakarachryas excused themselves from the event. The reasons varied, from political issues to petty ones. But in this land of Ram, even Lord Ram could not bring in everyone, leaving a sense of disappointment in the air.
However, we saw a stark contrast in the same land and era. From Lalu to Mamata, Shankaracharya to Sachin Tendulkar to Amitabh Bachchan, Baba Ramdev to Shahrukh Khan, Sachin Pilot to Akhilesh, all were seen smiling, posing, and some even dancing at the wedding of Anant-Radhika. This contrast in participation highlights the societal dynamics and the impact of recent events.
Shankaracharya, the most revered religious leader responsible for steering the souls of billions of Hindus, was at the doorstep of Ambanis to personally bless the newly wedded. Some power and clout Ambans have. The PM was also there to bless the couple.
Most guests, at least from the political side — Mamata to Lalu, Akhilesh to Sachin — abuse Ambanis 24/7. Their full-time job is to paint Ambani and every single business owner of this country as capitalists who have been milking this country dry, and that too at the cost of farmers, small traders, and shopkeepers.
The scion of a political party, part of the infamous INDI alliance, was even seen dancing like an extra at one of the events. All tears for farmers, poor people, and small traders of socialist stalwarts like Lalu and Akhilesh were shamelessly dropped at the altar of money and power.
The Sultan of Democracy opened his palace gates for the poor Junta, and the poor Junta rushed to savour exemplary life and food in return for their undisputed allegiance to the Crown.
While we read this piece, taking sides, the Ambanis must have a hearty laugh, which is at our expense.
