We did it!

But did we?

The song ‘Natu-Natu’ from SS Rajamouli’s film ‘RRR’ created history and won the Oscars. The song won Best Song at the 2023 Oscars.

Before you call me a cynic or spoil-sport, please ask yourself, is this the best song our country has produced so far or, for that matter, in 2023? Now ask yourself again if you would be humming this song in 2024 or 2025. The last, ask if you have hummed this song at all.

It is one of those forgettable melodies which found favour at the Oscars. But Why?

Mark my words, in years to come, India will be getting more and Oacars. After dominating the economic forum globally, pushing Britain behind, and inching towards the number four slot, we have reached a. stage where the ruling dispensation needs to position India as a soft power too.

Remember Indians wearing UCLA sweatshirts, flaunting Hollywood icon posters and going gaga over anything from the West? That is soft power.

For a country like India, cricket and movies could have been the seeding ground for the same. But as most nations do not play cricket, the films must bear the onus.

With its re-hashed and dated content and left-driven agenda, surely Bellwood is not finding any favours with the viewers or the government. This has given south films an impetus, and this Oscar has consolidated their footing, not globally. Can you believe that RRR has been getting the crowd across the geography, LA to Tokyo.

A massive round of applause for the team.

So what if I think Natu-Natu is mediocre?

As long as India is winning, this Indian is happy.
